Minimalist Room Interior

A Season Held Inside brings together paintings by senior artist M. R. Deshmukh shaped by memory, longing, and quiet observation. As movement in the world slowed, the artist turned inward, sustaining rendezvous with memory, observation, and the silent persistence of artistic inquest. A reposed world in pandemic brought in silence. It left everything and everyone in a long solitude. This was a great hiatus for Artist M. R. Deshmukh. A time of quiet in life where he felt void, but it was actually resourcing something new and remarkable. Amid this stillness, the world of colours continued to call, gently and persistently. Every time monsoon approached, it left behind visual impressions of mesmerizing rain-laden clouds, distant mountain ranges, dense greenery of the Krishna and Koyna valleys, winding spiral roads, and clusters of dwellings resting along gentle hill slopes, recollects artist. Obvious by sensitivity born from his memories, these paintings are not records of a journey once taken, but of a season he absorbed and held gently deep within, and slowly they got released on canvas. In the early paintings, small, delicate papers captured fleeting glimpses of light and shadow. Though modest in size, each held deep care and attention. Slowly, the works grew larger, carrying the same focus into broader spaces, exploring balance, rhythm, and the feeling of place. Oeuvre, depicts distilled forms and dignified compositions rather than functioning as literal landscapes, these elements operate as carriers of feeling and inner rhythm, created during the prolonged loneliness of the pandemic within a context of physical restriction and heightened introspection. Compositions open up softly, layering colours, forms, and revealing calm deviations in lines, curves and arrangements projecting original aura of a sunlit cluster of adobe homes. Alongside these landscapes runs a continuing search for simplicity in the human figure portraying their life, interrelationships and compassion with ease, patience and minimalism. The paintings emerge softly, without assertion, allowing the viewer to indulge into it gradually. Beyond the visible, lies hidden beauty, one that stirs a deeper joy even within laymen. If these paintings can bring stillness and relief to weary souls in today’s demanding world, his purpose is fulfilled. And if they offer comfort after the long, frightening years we have endured, that is the long-awaited dawn breaking upon our hearts.
